Holiday club grant helps St Cuthbert’s reach local children

Communities Together Durham distributed 23 holiday club grants across Durham Diocese this summer, helping churches to provide activities, food, friendship and opportunities for children and families to explore faith during the school holidays.

One of the churches to benefit was St Cuthbert’s Darlington, which welcomed 43 children aged 6–12 to its three-day Kingdom Builders summer holiday event, held from 28–30 July.

Each day combined faith exploration with plenty of fun, including Bible stories, videos, discussion, creative activities, sports, games, music and worship. Children also had opportunities to pray and reflect in dedicated prayer and quiet spaces.

A grant from Communities Together Durham, enabled by Lord Crewe's Charity, contributed towards the cost of the event, helping St Cuthbert’s reach more local children and families.

Fifteen volunteers gave their time across the three days, helping with welcoming families, supporting children, catering and leading activities.

Organisers said it was a joyful experience to see God at work through both the volunteers and children, and thanked everyone who supported the event through volunteering, funding and prayer.

The holiday club grants distributed by Communities Together Durham are helping churches across the Diocese to reach out to children and families in their local communities. At St Cuthbert’s, the team is now asking for continued prayer as it seeks to build on the summer’s activities and explore new ways of bringing the Kingdom of God to children and families.

With thanks to St. Cuthbert's Church and Holy Trinity Church for the photographs.
